Make-up must haves

Day 6: Make-up.

Make up?! I'm probably the worst person to tell you what make up to use. When I was googling images I googled Always blush.  I didn't quite find what I was looking for and then I realized it's Almay.

Almay, Abby! Always is something else.

I don't even buy my own make-up. My mom does, and it's been that way since I started wearing real make-up. So yeah. Since she buys it, she picks it and I trust her. Most days I just wear foundation and powder. If it's a good day, I'll put on some blush, and if it's a really good day I'll throw on some mascara.
Make-up just isn't my thing. It's not because I'm one of those girls who only believes in inner beauty, it's just that I'm a minimalist and I don't like spending the time or money on make-up. If I didn't have acne, I would probably hardly ever wear make-up. I thought living in NYC might change the way I view fashion and make-up, but it hasn't. Although, I try to dress a little more hipster. I still only use four pieces of make-up and they are pictured below:

No. 7 foundation-- It stays on well and has a nice color.
Mascara-- It needs to be waterproof.
Blush-- I like a little pink.
Powder-- It hides the oils ??

Are you a make-up person? When and why did you become a make-up person? Do you use Bare Minerals? Do I think I should try that stuff?

  1. I'm with you on the "not a make-up person" thing! I wear make-up because it's generally considered acceptable and because it makes me feel more awake. But I don't know how to choose between products, so I generally use make-up that has been purchased for me {via my mom or sisters}. I do love a couple Mary Kay products, but those are the only ones I have strong feelings for.
    Thanks for sharing a minimalist's perspective! :)

    1. You're right about make-up being the "norm." We grew believing that make-up is something that girls have to wear.

  2. I never wore make-up unless I was going to a wedding. And then my hubby thought I looked strange. Then I got acne and tried to find something to at least cover the red. Then I figured out that Wheat caused my acne. And when I started to heal I stopped wearing most make-up except the wonderful tinted spf lotion from Aveda and sometimes a bit of bronzer over that. The lotion feels wonderful and comfortable to wear. Other stuff has made me itch. There is only one color, so not sure why it works so well on me. Like you, it was given to me! I don't like to buy make-up either and I bet it has to do somewhat from being a Minnesotan. We are too practical I think. The other thing I like to wear too is the Aveda rouge or whatever I was given. Just a tiny bit. It can be fun if you know what you are doing. I generally ask my sisters-in-law to help me with eye shadow for special occasions.

    1. Haha, Michael would say that :). I am tempted to try going gluten free. I have always battled acne. Aveda is the best! You definitely have natural beauty--so no need to wear make-up every day!

  3. I don't wear make-up every day, but I do enjoy wearing it when I do. I think quality make-up makes all the difference, although I don't have tons of make-up experience. I think it's all about finding what works best for you. Having a foundation primer is amazing and I prefer a mineral foundation.

    1. I totally agree! Make-up can work wonders for your look if it's high-quality and applied properly.
